World Soil Day celebrated at MAIL
The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock celebrated,5 December, World Soil Day, under the slogan "KEEP SOIL ALIVE, PROTECT SOIL BIODIVERSITY" in the presence of a group of experts and university professors.
Hashmatullah Ghafoori, deputy minister of irrigation and natural resources of MAIL mentioned soil as most significant vital substance and said, “Soil is a living being and we should not let it die."
Emphasizing the importance of soil protection and maintenance, Mr. Ghafoori said that it has been mentioned many times in the Holy Quran, "Soil is a clean and healthy thing, but due to floods, the use of improper materials in the soil, the soil is destroyed and destroyed. Unfortunately, in different areas of Afghanistan from forty to eighty percent, soil degradation is very serious. In Badakhshan, Kunar, Ghazni, Nimroz and Farah provinces, the level of soil degradation is very serious. Similarly, in the central provinces, parts of the North and South and some parts of the west have been severely degraded."In the western part of the country, soil destruction has increased by forty to sixty percent."
As a result, the Directorate of Soil Research of the Ministry of Agriculture, according to international standards and at the national level, has started a soil survey and has so far covered 45 districts in 12 provinces.
The survey will cover the entire territory of Afghanistan by the end of 1403 and will provide detailed information.
