A scorpion farm was build and utilized in Lashkargha, provincial capital of Helmand province.
In this farm, 16,000 types of scorpions are bred. Zalmai Alako, provincial agriculture director, said, “The farm has been built by the private sector and the Agriculture Directorate is committed to provide all necessary cooperation to the sector.”
Officials of the farm said that they have built the farm in order to prevent smuggling of Afghanistan’s scorpions abroad. They have so far collected 16,000 types of scorpions in their farm and ask the government to find market for their scorpion venom abroad.
Mr. Alako said that they have provided professional and technical advices for the officials of the farm.
The feed of these scorpions are worms. Each scorpion produces six drops of venom each three months. The price of one kilogram of scorpion venom is nearly 10 million USD.
