Ghazni Prune Yield reached more than two thousand Tons

Department of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock of Ghazni Province says that more than 2,000 Metric Ton Prune have been obtained from 260 Hectares of Prune Orchards this year.
Abdul Wali Kochi, Head of Agricultural affairs at the Ghazni Department of Agriculture, says that four varieties of prunes are grown in Ghazni, the most famous of which is the Sparrow Heart and has a Global Market.
According to him, Ghazni prunes are also exported abroad to India, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada.
Hayatullah Shafahi, head of Padidah Ghazna Company, says that prunes are more produced in Ghazni than in other provinces.
He said that the Prunes of the province have a higher price and currently one Kilo dry prunes is sold more than two hundred Afghanis in Ghazni Market.
Mr. Shafahi added that packaging is the main problem in the production and processing of Prunes in Ghazni. The problem has led to Prunes being sold sub standardly and cheaply in overseas Markets, he said.
Padidah Ghazna Company processes an average of 700K Prunes a day during the harvest season, and women play a major role in the processing of this product.
Fariba Mehrzad is one of the women in this company in the process of Prune processing. He says that by working for the company, he has been able to address some of his family's economic problems.
Nationwide, there are 4,294 Hectares of Prune Orchards, and the Yield per Hectare is estimated at seven Metric.
Prune are produced in Kabul Ghazni, Logar, Parwan, Kandahar, Zabul and Maidan Wardak provinces.
Meanwhile, Ghazni produces the highest quality Prunes.
