Minister of Agriculture: Self-sufficiency in Dairy sector is one of the main priorities

Dr. Anwar al-Haq Ahadi, minister of agriculture, irrigation and livestock, in a meeting which was held to provide information on the activities of Agriculture and Livestock Project or( CLAP) and Second National Priority Support Program (SNaPP2) in fiscal year 1399 and plans for these projects in fiscal year 1400 he emphasized the country's self-sufficiency in the production of dairy products.
Mustafa Hamad Zia, director of these projects at the Ministry of Agriculture MAIL, said, “The ministry through ( CLAP) project has built 24 irrigation canals in Kabul, Logar, Parwan, Balkh, Herat, Laghman and Nangarhar provinces in fiscal year 1999, and said that construction of another 41 irrigation canals is in progress in the provinces.”
Mr. Zia further added that in fiscal year of 1999, the (CLAP) project accelerated the construction of the largest dairy processing center in Kabul, and 98% work of the processing center has been progressed. According to him, the (CLAP) project had 972 million AFN budget in fiscal year 99 and 860 million AFN in fiscal year 1400.
The director of (CLAP) project said that the project will work in the areas of irrigation development, livestock, process development and dairy production, agricultural research, distribution of small and medium poultry farms to women and provision of livestock services to nomads in 1400 fiscal year. He stressed that Rishkhor dairy factories will be equipped by the mentioned project in 1400 with technology and equipment in fiscal year.
Mustafa Hamid Zia also said that (SNaPP2) has a budget of 1,400,700 Afghanis for the fiscal year. He said the program would complete the construction of 20 irrigation canals and support needy families via distribution of dairy cows. Mr. Zia said, supporting the private sector and small and medium-sized businesses and building a greenhouse would be other activities of the program in 1400.”
Meanwhile, the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Anwarul Haq Ahadi, emphasized the commercialization of poultry farms as well as Afghanistan's self-sufficiency in dairy production. He said that if possible, poultry farms must be commercialized and the activities of these two projects should be expanded to other provinces.
Ahady further said that Achieving Afghanistan's self-sufficiency in dairy production was one of the strategic plans of MAIL.
