30,000 Hectares of Pistachio Commercial Garden to be built in Dasht-e-Hoz of Injil district of Herat

Hashmatullah Ghafouri, deputy minister of irrigation and natural resources of the Ministry of Agriculture (MAIL), presented the details of the plan to build commercial gardens in Dasht-e-Hoz, Injil district of Herat province to Dr. Anwarul Haq Ahadi, minister of agriculture, irrigation and livestock.
Mr. Ghafouri said, “Total area of Dasht-e-Hoz in Injil district of Herat province is 48,000 hectares, under which 30,000 hectares of commercial gardens will be built jointly with the investment of private sector and government of Afghanistan.”
According to Mr. Ghafouri, one part of technical, economic and social studies for the implementation of this plan has been completed and another part is underway.
The plan, which is being considered by the Economic Supreme Council and is to be submitted to the Cabinet will then be implemented over the next five years.
Deputy Minister of Irrigation and Natural Resources of (MAIL) stated that since pistachios are harvested after four years, the ministry of agriculture also includes cumin among the trees for an annual yield of 30 million. He reminded that with the arrival of commercial pistachio orchards 700 million worth of pistachios are to be added to Afghanistan's exports annually.
In addition, the Deputy Minister of Irrigation and Natural Resources said that the project also had environmental benefits, with the construction of 500 protective dams (leaks) to prevent water waste and also to control floods, prevent soil erosion and reduce dust.
At the end of the presentation of information about this project by Mr. Ghafouri, Dr. Anwarul Haq Ahadi, minister of agriculture, welcomed the project and thanked those who were involved in the construction of this project. The Minister of Agriculture also emphasized the need to expedite the implementation of this project, in addition to presenting his guiding theories.
Mr. Ahadi reminded that this project is important in strengthening the country's economy and especially providing the ground for increasing production and labor.
