Asad 9: July 31, 2019
Officials at Herat Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock Directorate said that grape production has increased by 15 percent in the province compared to last year.
Bashir Ahmad Ahmadi, deputy head of Herat Agriculture Directorate, said, “Farmers in Herat will produce over 135,000 tons of grapes this year as the harvest season has arrived.”
Ahmadi added, “We have more than 8,000 hectares of vineyards in Herat.”
Herat gardeners are also optimistic about their vineyards crops and say that this year grape yields have increased compared to last year, citing Ministry of Agriculture’s cooperation in building grape gardens, timely distribution of pesticides, and proper guidance of the Ministry as the main reason behind the hike.
This comes as last year there were 7,700 hectares of vineyards in Herat province, producing 120,000 tons of grapes.
Herat has over 48 types of grapes.
