World Food Day celebrated at Ministry of Agriculture

World Food Day was celebrated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Food Program (WFP) in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock at the Ministry of Agriculture.
Hashmatullah Ghafoori, Deputy Minister of irrigation and Natural Resources of the Ministry of Agriculture, said that the outbreak of the Corona virus has increased Global hunger.
 He said the world's population now stands at 7.6 Billion and will reach nearly 10 Billion in three Decades.
Mr. Ghafoori added that currently two Billion people in the world are suffering from hunger.
He said that About 10.9 Million people, about 35% of the country's population, are malnourished.
Ghafoorisaid that this year the amount of Wheat production in the country has increased by 5% to 5.1 Million Metrics Tons, with a shortage of only 1.3 Million Metrics.
But in the coming years, with large projects underway, wheat production will reach six Million Metrics Tons.
 He added that two large projects worth 14.5 Billion Afghanis, which have created tens of thousands of permanent and temporary jobs, will also help alleviate hunger and provide food.
Meanwhile, Rajendra Ariel, Head of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Afghanistan, says the global outbreak of the Corona virus has had a negative impact on the Agricultural sector.
He declared support for all sectors of the state, non-governmental and peasantry.
 Parvati Ramaswami, WFP's Deputy Director of the World Food Program in Afghanistan, also said that the coronavirus epidemic has had many negative economic and social effects so far.
She stated that Now more than ever, Planting, Feeding, sustainability, being together, encourages us to work hand in hand to protect our future.
