A Mechanical Dispute against Root-eating White Worm Kicks off in Kunduz

Badghis Directorate of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock has announced lunching of a mechanical campaign against root-eating white-worm and reclamations of damaged grasslands in the province, the mentioned campaign started in Imam Sahib and Dasht-e-Archi districts of Kunduz province.
The root-eating white worm, called the adult worm, is three to four years old in larval stage or worm in the presence of sufficient food, and in first year lives near the soil and causes severe damage to the roots of plants and causes the plants to dry out. And eliminates green areas at all. In recent years, this pest has become widespread in grasslands of Kunduz province and has affected large areas of grasslands. The grasslands of Kunduz province are a good source of livestock, and in spring every year a large number of ranchers bring tens thousands of their livestock to these areas for feeding.
In order to combat this pest and prevent further damage, the Directorate of Plant Protection and Quarantine of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) allocated money to purchase grass seeds and equipment needed for mechanical control of root-borne whitefly and regenerate damaged areas. Authorized by Kunduz directorate of Agriculture.
Kunduz Directorate of Agriculture said, “It will continue its campaign to eliminate large areas of grasslands in the province from the presence of this worm.”
