Daikundi Almond Yields Increase by 40 Percent

Mezan 9: October 1, 2019

Daikundi Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock Directorate reported that almond yields have increased by 40 percent this year in the province.

The directorate said that their survey shows that due to well-timed rains this year, almond yields in Daikundi will have an increase of 40 percent compared to the previous year, reaching to 25,000 metric tons.

In addition to sufficient water, pest control, distribution of improved seedlings and creation of standard gardens by the Ministry of Agriculture has also helped increase almond yields.

Daikundi Agriculture Directorate added that almonds are a major and surplus crop in the province, and most of the Daikundi agricultural lands are covered by almond trees. According to the directorate, previously 15,000-20,000 metric tons of almonds were produced in the province but the figure will jump to 25,000 metric tons this year.

This comes as last year due to severe drought in the country horticultural crops in Daikundi fell by half.

Daikundi has a good climate for gardening and all fruit trees grow well in this province.
