Dairy Industry Development plan discussed

Dairy Industry Development plan was discussed in a meeting attended by Dr. Anwar al-Haq Ahady, minister of agriculture, irrigation and livestock (MAIL), deputies and a number of directors of technical sections and advisers of MAIL.
Hashmatullah Ghafouri, deputy MAIL for Irrigation and Natural Resources, sharing the details of the project with the Minister of Agriculture said: “The dairy industry development plan has already been approved by Supreme Economic Council.”
He added, “Paving the way for upgrading milk collection centers, building dairy processing factories and strengthening the dairy value chain has been included in mentioned plan. Stating that Afghanistan needs three million metric tons of dairy a year, adding that in order to achieve self-sufficiency in dairy production, the private sector must be supported and worked with jointly. Mr. Ghafouri said that production in Afghanistan currently reaches 2.1 million metric tons per year.”
Also, Shirshah Amiri, deputy minister of agriculture and livestock of the Ministry of Agriculture, in the meeting said that a lot of dairy factories and milk collection centers were built but these centers and factories are not enough.
He further said, “In-order to achieve self-sufficiency in dairy production, in addition to increasing dairy production, the focus should be on building commercial farms as well as strengthening monitoring systems.”
Meanwhile, MAIL minister said that self-sufficiency in dairy production is one of his top priorities, adding that achieving self-sufficiency in dairy production could be one of the greatest achievements in strengthening the country's economy and livestock.
The Minister of Agriculture said that studies and plans have been made on how to achieve self-sufficiency in dairy production, but these plans must be implemented regularly and based on the results.
