Dalwa 5: January 24, 2021
Dr. Anwarul Haq Ahadi, minister of agriculture, irrigation and livestock, continued his visit to Nangarhar in separate meetings with Zia-ul-Haq Amarkhail, senior advisor to the president and governor of Nangarhar, and discussed various agricultural issues with a number of investors, traders and farmers in the province.
Azizullah Hesam, a representative of Habib hesam poultry farm, says that Nangarhar is self-sufficient in several poultry sectors, including the production of chicken eggs and meat, yet imports from neighboring countries have negatively affected their investment, so farmers in Nangarhar are asking the minister of agriculture to prohibit the import of poultry products.
Engineer Qasim, a representative of Nangarhar chamber of agriculture, also asked the minister of agriculture to build an agricultural industrial park to invest more in the province in various agricultural sectors.
The investors also asked the minister of agriculture to talk to government officials about the supply of high-voltage electricity in industrial parks.
Industrialists also say that they have many problems in field of agricultural machinery and import all the necessary machinery from other countries. Currently, a company is operating in the field of agricultural machinery manufacturing, including Tracheal in Nangarhar. If an agricultural industrial park is built and the craftsmen are supported by the government, there is no need to import machinery and they will be able to produce this agricultural machinery in Nangarhar.
However, Nangarhar Governor Zia-ul-Haq Amarkhail said he was working with them on land to build an industrial park, and that a proposal to supply electricity to industrial parks had also been sent to the president.
Mr. Ahady, while appreciating the private sector’s investment in the country, promised them that within the framework of the law, he will discuss the import of agricultural products from neighboring countries in high economic council and, if possible, ban the import of some products. On the import of some others, they will raise the customs tariff and talk to the local authorities and donors of agricultural sector about the construction of an agricultural industrial park, which is a reasonable proposal, in order to build an agricultural industrial park in a decent location.
The minister of agriculture also told the industrialists in the field of agricultural machinery that we must first understand the annual need in the field of various agricultural machinery to support the private sector and invest more in this sector.
Mr. Ahady, also said that machinery plays a key role in development of agriculture and will work together with the private sector in this sector so that we can produce all the necessary machinery domestically in near future.
