Dr. Anwarul Haq Ahady, minister of agriculture, irrigation and livestock, met in his office with officials from the National Union of Poultry Producers and Processors of Afghanistan.

Ansarullah Bakhtiani, director of National Union of Poultry Producers and Processors of Afghanistan, and Marouf Zafar, a poultry official representing the union, spoke with the Minister of Agriculture during the meeting.

Mr. Bakhtiani, while presenting a report and details about the capacities of poultry sector and farms which are members of this union, explained the opportunities of poultry sector and called for more coordination and cooperation of the Ministry of Agriculture in supporting the poultry sector and strengthening the self-sufficiency process.

The union officials said, “The union is a nationwide poultry farm complex in the country. According to them, they asked the Minister of Agriculture to support poultry farming, it is necessary that domestic products be included in the expenditures of the security forces and that their union include contracts with security institutions.”

They said that their union had a lot of production capacity.

After that, the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Anwarul Haq Ahady, said that the poultry sector is one of the key priorities and future plans of MAIL to strengthen this sector and eventually achieve self-sufficiency. The Minister of Agriculture said that it is important to strengthen domestic production and use this production in government agencies.

Mr. Ahady said that poultry farming is an active sector in the country and he is struggling to increase investments in this direction, and also to talk to government agencies to support domestic production so that domestic production is preferred to purchases by government agencies, especially security agencies.

Mr. Ahady also instructed the officials of the relevant directorates in MAIL to talk to the security agencies and National Procurement Office, and then to go over the existing opportunities and capacities of the National Union of Afghan Poultry Producers and Processors and other unions active in this sector. And be introduced to national procurement based on their capacities in order to make more use of domestic products.

In this meeting, along with the officials of the mentioned union, poultry representatives from different zones were present.

The Minister of Agriculture said, “That strengthening domestic production and more investment in this sector and ultimately the self-sufficiency of this sector are part of the priorities and plans of this MAIL.”

The Minister of Agriculture was thanked by Representatives of different zones and called for more cooperation.
