81 Onion and Potato Warehouses put into operation in Paktia

The Ministry of Agriculture has built and exploited 81 Onion and Potato warehouses in Paktia province as part of its Agricultural Product Management Plan and through its Horticultural Value Chain Development Project.
41 warehouses have been built for Onions and another 40 warehouses for Potatoes.
The peasants who benefited from these services can now store about 500 Tons of Onion and Potato products from their sale and consumption in these warehouses every year.
The construction of these warehouses was being carried out by the Horticulture Value Chain Development Project (HVCDSP) of the Ministry of Agriculture.
These warehouses were built at a total cost of 44 Million 806 thousand 418 Afghanis.
The cost of building Onion warehouses was 20 Million 185 thousand 858 Afghanis and the cost of building Potato warehouses was 24 Million 620 thousand 560 Afghanis.
Eighty percent of these amounts is paid by the Ministry of Agriculture and the other 20 percent by the beneficiary farmers.
Each warehouse has a storage capacity of 12 Metrics Tons of Onion and Potatoes.
Together with these warehouses, Paktia farmers can store about 492 Metrics 5tons of Onions and 480 Tons of Potatoes per year and market them at the right time.
Last year, 950 Hectares of Potatoes and 730 Hectares of Onions were planted in Paktia province.
About 15,580 Metrics Tons of Potatoes and 10,950 Metrics Tons of Onions were obtained from these field.
