More than 9 Tons of Cumin harvested in first half of this year

Figure from the Statistics Directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) demonstrates that in first half of this solar year, more than nine metric tons of cumin were harvested all over the country.
The figures also show that a total of 12,989 metric tons of cumin were harvested last year. According to these statistics, the yield of cumin this year will increase dramatically compared to last year.
Also, the figures  of the Statistics directorate  of MAIL demonstrates that the amount of exports of this plant abroad in the first six months of this year compared to the same period last year, has increased and the value of these exports has reached six million and 216 thousand dollars. The value of cumin exports last year reached six million and 431 thousand dollars. According to these statistics, the amount of cumin exports will increase dramatically by the end of this year.
Badakhshan, Jawzjan, Uruzgan, Daikundi, Nimroz, Zabul, Helmand, Kandahar, Balkh, Samangan, Farah, Badghis and Paktika are the main producers of cumin in Afghanistan.
Cumin is 15 to 50 cm high and has long and narrow roots. Cumin has different types, the most well- known and most widely used of which are green cumin, black cumin and white cumin. Cumin is not only used as a flavoring in cooking, but also in medicine due to its medicinal properties. Cumin has anti-swelling, digestive, antiseptic properties.
Cumin is produced in Afghanistan in two types, natural and wild, and its price in the market varies depending on how it is produced and the type of cumin.
Cumin has different prices depending on its quality. Thus, Badakhshan cumin is sold in the market every seven kilos at a price of 2,500 and above. The cumin planted and produced in each garlic every seven kilos is sold for about 1,200 AFN.
Afghan cumin is exported to India, Pakistan, Turkey and a number of European countries and has significant income for the country.
