MAIL Celebrates World Breastfeeding Week

The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) celebrated World Breastfeeding Week in Kabul today.
Nazira Rahman, director of household economy at MAIL, emphasized the importance of breastfeeding and said, “Breast milk has a great nutritional value, is healthy and always available for free.”
Director of Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) Nutrition Department Dr, Mursal Muradi said when a baby is breastfed for up to six months, about 2.5 percent of infants’ mortality is prevented. “Around the world, 45 percent of infant mortality is due to malnutrition, which corresponds to the first two years of life,” she added. “Breastfeeding also prevents infectious diseases, obesity and some cancers and heart disease in adulthood.”
The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) has various programs for food security, improving the household economy, empowering parents and nutrition education at the urban and rural levels.
