Increasing of Onion Production in Current Year

According to prediction, onion production will increase by 10 to 20% this year compared to last year. Last year, 3,520 tons of onions were produced throughout the country. This year, 18,340 hectares of land were planted with onions across the country, and yields are expected to increase by 10 to 20 percent compared to last year.
Last year, much of important agricultural product worth more than $ 29 million was exported to other countries due to a lack of storage. But this year, with the implementation of the Agricultural Product Management Project, the construction of 3,207 onion warehouses in 34 provinces has been launched and a large part of these warehouses have been completed and utilized. Each of these warehouses has a storage capacity of 45 tons of onions.
Onion is one of the oldest vegetables which is consumed in large quantities in the country every year. There are different types of onions: Yellow, white and red, each of which has different uses.
Takhar, Logar, Baghlan, Kabul, Parwan and Sar-e-Pul are among the provinces with the highest production of onion in the country.
