Duration: September, 2007 – March, 2011 (3 years and 6 months)

Location: Nangarhar province

Status: Completed on March 2011

Objective:
Rice cultivation techniques suitable for the climate condition of the target area are improved, and those techniques are used in extension work.

Components:
(1) Enhancement of capacity of research
(2) Activation of function of agriculture extension system
(3) Promotion of collaboration between research and extension work

Progress/ Achievements in 2011:
(1) Rice cultivation experiments/research in the Sheshambagh Agriculture Experiment Station (SAES)
(2) Variety selection and seed multiplication
(3) Technical training for extension officer and farmer’s day program
(4) Demonstration farm activities and field training for farmers in 25 villages
(5) Development of extension tools; manual and instruction paper, rice cultivation standard & calendar, cost & benefit, etc

(6) Seminar on plant protection and post harvest technology
(7) Training in Japan for researcher of the SAES
(8) Procurement of equipment and machineries for SAES and Directorate of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (DoA) in Nangarhar
(9) Re-construction of main gate and 163 m protection wall of SAES
(10) RIP workshop and Joint Coordinating Committee Meeting
(11) Technical training course for Kunduz, Takhar, Baghlan, Laghman and Kunar Provinces.
