Objective: The aims of this project are to support the projects of horticulture, extension, seed trial and seed multiplication, artificial insemination, beekeeping , fishery, capacity building and logistic support for MAIL central offices, evaluation of the projects, getting ready for the future projects animal husbandry 2010 (artificial insemination, apiculture, fishery) Components

Progress/ Achievements


Research and seed multiplication
a. In 2009, the statistic analysis of data from growing seasons 2002/2003, 2003/2004, 2004/2005, 2005/2006,2006/2007 and 2007/2008 collected from different 8 agricultural zones (Balkh, Heart, Kapisa, Kunduz, Kabul, Logar, Kandahar and Nangarhar provinces) completed by technical staff of FCOMAIL. The result of this study showed that three varieties MH0304, EXOTIC and AUTAN had high rate of adaptability, resistance to pest and diseases and high yield during the last years of trial.

Therefore, the result submitted to the MAIL Seed Release Committee proposed the approval for the release of mentioned varieties. They
were approved.

b. Research experimental trials of 2008/2009 and 2009/2010 were done in 7 agriculture ecological zones (Balk, Kunduz, Herat, Nangarhar, Kandahar, Baghlan, Takhar and Kapisa Provinces).

c. The research trial of 2010/2011 did planting in 7 agriculture ecological zones (Balk, Kunduz, Herat,
Nangarhar, Baghlan, Takhar and Kapisa Provinces.

d. The seed multiplication program of 2008/2009 and 2009/2010 was conducted in Nangarhar, Baghlan and Kabul

e. 4 MT Saffron corms distributed to the farmers in Kabul, Kapisa, Wardak and Parwan provinces Evaluation animal husbandry, bee keeping and research activities

f. First and second phases of project evaluation completed

Preparing of future projects’ proposals (apiculture, fish farming and animal husbandry)

Capacity building activities
a. 4 MAIL staff sent to Paris to participate in wheat research training course

b. 180 minute bee keeping and fish farming lectures conducted for 200 students of agriculture faculty, Kabul University

c. Providing of technical advice to 577 beekeepers from different provinces

d. Fish farming training courses conducted for 63 MAIL staff in different provinces

e. 3 MAIL staff and 3 members of 3 private companies sent to France to participate in animal husbandry exhibition

f. 6 high level staff of MAIL sent to France to visit the agriculture development activities there

g. 2 staff of Afran Organization trained for 3 days in fish farming at Qargha Fish Farm

h. 16 presidents of 16 cooperatives from Panjshir, Kapisa, Parwan, Kabul, Bamyan, Wardak, Logar and Ghazni provinces, head of MAIL Cooperative Directorate, 1 person from coordination office of MAIL and 3 FCOMAIL staff sent to France to visit different cooperatives there

i. 65 farmers trained in warm fish farming training course for 4 days in Nangarhar and Kunduz provinces

j. Technical advice provided to 30 private fish farm owners from different locations

k. Training of 250 students of agriculture and veterinary faculties of Kabul University for 1 day in different activities of fish farming at Qargha Fish Farm

l. Training of 9 beekeepers and 2 carpenters from Urozgan province based on coordination of GTZ organization

m. Training of 12 students of animal husbandry department, agriculture faculty of Kabul University on beekeeping, fish farming and frozen semen production and artificial insemination different activities.

n. 32 MAIL staff trained on beekeeping management, beekeeping and honey disease, control of pest and diseases and winterization of bee colonies

 

Provide support to Apiculture Program (Darulaman Bee Beeping Center)
a. Supporting of Darulaman Bee Keeping Center through providing of equipment, tools and materials

b. Supporting of bee keepers through providing of technical advice tools and materials

c. Proper processing, packing and labeling for promotion of Afghan bee keeping product in the market

d. Time by time follow up and monitoring of beekeeping activities in different provinces

e. Providing of Per Diem to Darulaman Beekeeping Center

f. Coordination and support with organizations and agriculture faculty students for sharing of information and preparing of seminars


Provide support to Fish Farming Program
a. Support of Qargha and Kapisa Fish Farms through providing of equipment, tools and materials

b. Providing of per diem to staff of Qargha and Kapisa Fish Farms

c. Survey of new fish farms and providing of technical advises and fingerlings to interested private farm in different provinces

d. Totally 459,500 fish fingerlings and technical information provided to 113 newly established private fish farms in Kabul, Parwan, Badakshan, Kapisa, Panjshir, Takhar and Baghlan Province to increase the fish meat production and to develop fish farming activities in Afghanistan.

e. 201 interested individuals from Kabul, Herat, Parwan, Badakshan, Kapisa, Panjshir, Kunar and Baghlan province trained by technical staff on construction of farm, management and feeding of cold water fish farming.

f. For rehabilitation of water resources 200,000 fish fingerlings were released in Qargha reservoir dam, Ghurband River and
