North and North East Agricultural Development Support Project (NEADSP)

Project Overall Objective:

The overall objective of the project is to promote the development of agriculture in the north and north eastern regions of Afghanistan, particularly cotton/cereal crop rotations, thereby contributing to food security in the region and reducing the area of land used for poppy cultivation.

Project Components:

In order to meet the objectives the plan in to turn the research center at Puze-e-Shams into a truly operational unit and make it an agricultural center of excellence serving the north and north eastern regions

The rehabilitation of the Puze-e-Shams center is included in the first two of the project’s four components, as detailed below:

  1. Support for the implementation of research and development activities
  2. Support for the implementation of a productive and distribution network for certified cereal and cotton seeds
  3. Facilitation of the development of agricultural cooperatives and professional organizations in the region covered by the program

Establishment of cotton monitoring unit and regional rural economic cell.
