Project Background:

Building on the Agriculture Master Plan, the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (GoA) in collaboration with its development partners has defined a number of appropriate priorities for agricultural investments and policies under the National Agricultural Development Framework (NADF). In order to increase farmers' incomes and improve the food security situation, the GoA is giving foremost attention to strengthening of the agricultural production base. In this respect the government has asked the World Bank for assistance in strengthening agricultural input supply systems. Specifically, the GoA has requested the World Bank for assistance in the preparation of the Afghanistan Agriculture Inputs Project (AAIP) that will consist of the following four components: (i) Improve seed production and certification; (ii) Establish infrastructure and policies regarding quality control and safe use of fertilizers and agrochemicals; (iii) Improve input delivery systems; and (iv) Establish efficient project management, implementation and coordination mechanisms.
The development objective of AAIP project is strengthened institutional capacity for safety and reliability of agricultural inputs and sustainable production of certified wheat seed.

Job Summary:

The Translator will have the responsibility of translating documents from English into Dari and Pashto and will report to the Project Director AAIP at MAIL.

The details of his/her duties and responsibilities are as below:

 

Key Responsibilities of: Translator  

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Translate project documents from English into Dari and Pashto.
  • Interpret project team discussions with non-English staff of the Ministry
  • Assist in preparation of presentations with international and national staff,
  • Translate occasionally from Dari and Pashto into English,
  • Prepare and present weekly and monthly reports to non-English Speaking staff of the Ministry regarding project progress and project activities,
  • Participate in all in-house training programs.
  • Assist in work of the AAIP project, if or when needed; and
  • Perform all other tasks related to the job as needed.
  • Any other task as assigned by the project Director.

 

 

 

Required Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:

  • 12th grade graduate with 4 years of related experience; or Bachelor’s in a related field (Agriculture, Languages) with two years of experience.
  • Able to speak and understand English language as well as have command on both national languages (Dari and Pashto),
  • Able to work under pressure,
  • Able to work long hours when and if required,
  • Able to work with less guidance.
