Senior Forestry Specialist

•He /She will be responsible to Implement and update existing field guidelines and manuals on reforestation.
•He/she ensures suitable sub project and better coordination with the provincial authorities and communities.
•He/she responsible for design and development of reforestation sub project.
•He/she will responsible for development of forest conservation and management guideline.
• He/ she will responsible for coordination in the field to better implementation of reforestation project.
•He/she responsible to coordinate community forestry aspects in targeted project with communities and forest conservation committee.

Under the overall guidance of the Project Management Unit (PMU) and Project Director, the Senior forest specialist will be responsible for the technical assistance component of the supporting all technical aspects of the project (Forestry component) for liaising with the chosen implementing partner, stackholder on all aspects of reforestation, and for advising and assisting the government agencies in the overall implementation of the program. More specifically, the Senior forest Specialist will carry out the following tasks:

•He/she will responsible for development of forest conservation and management guideline.
• He/ she will responsible for coordination in the field to better implementation of reforestation project.
•He/she responsible to coordinate community forestry aspects in targeted project with communities and forest conservation committee.
•He /she Assist the line supervisor to assess the effectiveness of reforestation component of the project.
•He /she Work with MAIL Forest and range land Department and the chosen implementing partner on all aspects of the reforestation program.
•He/she will responsible for weekly and monthly reports to the ASPR reforestation project achievements, challenges, recommendations related to the forestry aspects of the project.
• Sometimes travel to project sites supervise technical aspects of the project.
•Work closely with the Program Implementation and Coordination Unit of MAIL in Kabul, with the MAIL provincial department and selected implementing partner to assist them in achieving ASPR reforestation objectives.
•Any other tasks assigned by the line manager or Project Director.

•M.Sc. in forestry or natural resource management, with 5 years experience in relative field or BSC in NRM with a minimum of ten years of experience in both at field and policy level, with a good understanding of forestry, community forestry, and good reporting and assist line supervisors in skills.
•Experience in project and program management.
•Excellent analytical and report writing skills.
•Good communication and presentation skills.
•Ability to fluently communicate in English, Pashto and Dari.
•Ability to use computer especially Ms. Office package and work related programs.
•Leadership qualities, personnel and team management (including mediation and conflict resolution).
•A solid understanding of rural development and agriculture, with a focus on participatory processes, and gender issues.
•Although position is based in Kabul, candidate should have knowledge and experience of provinces of Afghanistan, and willingness to travel throughout Afghanistan.
